Boredom Sets, and I think of Words

So....
I was bored today and began looking at buying a new book. While reading a preview for one of these books, I came across a word.
Don't you hate it when you come across a word, and you know what it is, but for the love of it you can't pronounce it for the life of you? Yeah, so i have been running into that kind of word a lot lately. So this leads me to make a quickly little list of words that I like. If you happen to use any of these words, then ten points for you.

Colloquialism - A word or phrase or informal use of Language.

Episcopal - A kind of Christian church.

Haberdashery - Lit. the actions of a Haberdasher, which is a person who sells items for sewing
The way it is used? A kind of fun or sillyness and madness that is partaken. Woo!

Lessons Learned

You know, I am going to get the hang of this steady posting schedule eventually, I promise. But in the mean time, it is about half past late and I felt like doing something, ANYTHING, That had some sort of permanence, so I guess I will write down a couple things.

So, You ever reach a time in life in which the exciting has ultimately become mundane? Well it seems I have. The exciting trips to get a new shirt, or a book, or hell even a trip to the city, have all melded into this giant gelatinous blob that has become boring. Not the kind of boring that you have to flee, but almost kind of like being in a bath of Luke-warm water. It wont hurt you, and you don't mind it, but you are looking for some kind of sensation other then simply being.

This vaguely reminds me of a line from an Anime I like. It basically goes that no matter how exciting you try and make your life, eventually the excitement will fade away, so you will go to a new setting, do new things, until there is nothing left. I always found that somewhat depressing, but it seems that it is more true then I care to imagine.

I have also, for the most part, not believed in a true good or evil. Sure I think they are, but I have never thought that someone or something is one or the other. I always thought it was more that they were swirled together, into a nicely marbled ice cream like substance, erring on the side of good. Instead, I have felt that everything has turned into one giant puff of empty gray-ness, like a thick fog of carbon monoxide that sulks its way through a crowded city street. There is nothing two it, but the effect of its blurred being has on everyone is noticed, but barely recognized as anything. If you haven't figured out by now, I haven't been in the cheeriest of moods lately.

I remember a time, not so long ago, in which life didn't really have a purpose, but it did have a spark to it. A spark that fueled my every day with something that I was interested in doing. A time in which I had fun. Well now, instead of fun, I have a giant cube of monoxide jelly weighing around on my shoulders and a mind full of color that the world seems to not want to copy.

On the bright side, I now have the vaguest Idea as to how to put eyeliner on my top eye lid. Thank god for small favors, as they say.

Forcing along.

So I said I was going to keep posting, and unlike some people I know (You know who you are), I am going to try and keep at it, so at least I am writing something down...

So that begs the question as to what it is exactly I am going to post....

So Recently I have been getting almost obsessively into Musicals. I mean the kind of obsessiveness that is primarily saved for Game of Thrones, or Dr. Who, or I don't know what most people are into cause I'm weird. And it was because of this that I have also been on something of an Alice in Wonderland kick as well.

A while back, I was writing short stories for a class of mine. They were fairy tales based on the perspective of items that were featured prominently in the story. Suffice to say, they weren't particularly good...Well I liked the Glass Slipper one, but that, I will save for a time that I feel like writing about it.

Going back to Alice for a moment, I think I will write something quick about that. It is hard to determine what in the world you would take the perspective of though, since the whole cast of the book are crazy...Sorry, I meant mad. Either way, if you think of an Item or something, I would love it if you could gimme a comment as to what it should be. Though be it if someone actually sees this, then thank you for reading this far.

I have been thinkning that I am going to try my hand at screenwriting. I think I have learned the hard way that I am not the best story teller, but I have way to many good ideas brewing around in my head to not share them. And I REALLY REALLY want to. However, just as you cannot have a good debate without articulating your thoughts on a subject, you cant have a decent story without articulating the words onto a piece of paper. So I have been writing down a couple ideas for the first script that I am going to write in the fall. (I would write it now, but I dont know how to write a script. I might write it in short story form though. That would be fun.)

Any-Doctor, What else can I ramble on about...OH! So I set a really fun goal for the remander of the year. I am going to try and read 20 books before new years. I think it will be difficult, but doable. Considering I am partway through about 10, It will get me reading a bit more, which I love.

Anyway, I will see ya next time.

Season Finales and Why it must be Amazing to be Neil Patrick Harris.

So I am terrible at following through on things, but I am not going to beat that rather dead horse. This is the Prologue. I am going to be talking about Season Finales later on, spesifcally that for Once Upon a Time. Nothing major, but there will be minor minor spoilers that are more cliffhangers for the next Seasons, and speculation. Still, consider this a...
SPOILER WARNING
Got that? Good, On with the soap box!

I will start with Neil Patrick Harris. In case you have been on mars for the last 10 years, he was Barney Stinson on "How I Met Your Mother", Dougie Houser on "Dougie Howser, M.D.", Dr. Horrible on "Dr. Horrible's Sing along Blog", and a bunch of other stuff. Simple put, he is kind of Awesome. Anyway, I was bored one evening, strolling youtube for some entertainment, when I came across...The Tony awards. Pretty much the Oscars for Broadway. Any-Doctor, Dear god the musical numbers. Neil Patrick Harris has host the event 4 times, and each one included a song and dance number. However, it got me thinking, It must be awesome to be Neil Patrick Harris.

Think about it, He is the only person in the world, who could honestly start a song and dance number apropos of Nothing, and people would just go along with it. Really, that is the only reason I thought it would be awesome, but it completely would be!

Anyway, back to why I really want to write, the season finales. So, I will admit it right here and now. I am a huge Disney fangirl. So one of my Favorite shows, understandably, is Once Upon a Time. Now, the third season recently ended, but Here is the thing. At the 2 minute mark, they decided to bring in some new characters. One is there mainly for Dramatic purposes, and the other...well let me explain. From Rumpelstiltskin's vault of unpreditable and uncontrollable magic, came an urn. The urn ended up in Storybrooke, opened itself, and after some moving, squirming and shaping, a woman came from the small prison. A woman with Platinum blonde hair, a icy blue dress, and innate Ice magic...

Yeah, they went there.

Don't get me wrong, I love Frozen, really I do, and Elsa is an awesome character, but I am not so hip on this decision. A friend of mine (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) Said it was because I relate to much to her, but no, that is NOT the reason. Most of the characters that have been used up until this point (i.e. Peter Pan, Snow White, Wicked Witch of the West, Mad Hatter etc. etc.) Have been around so long that revisionism is perfectly Ok. They have gone through their time of just enjoying existing, and now they can explore "Well, What if this, was actually that". This is called the Revisionist period of film, and it works well with TV too. However, I saw Frozen shortly before this last Thanksgiving. It is way to new to revise, because it is still enjoying being awesome on its own. (And it is.) It is clearly a popularity grab on the side of Disney, Who owns the show, because of Frozen's Popularity, and the Oscar doesn't hurt.
This is Bad. There are still die hard fans of Frozen, and Disney is going to have to walk a very fine line here. Because they pretty much cannot make Elsa an evil character on her own, because she isnt innately evil, they have few places this can go. Assuming that they are making a Sequel to Frozen, rather then a spin off, then the only thing that they could do would be have someone control her, by way of her sister, since that is the only thing that she seems to care about. And if they do try and make her evil, then they are going to have a huge backlash from fans of the movie. They want to bring in more viewers, but they best be careful, because they can either bore them with another Frozen, or with something that fans will hate, and cause them to just go and stop watching the show.

Anyway, that was my rant for the time being. I will be sure to post when I have something that I really want to talk about...

OK! FOR SERIOUS THIS TIME~!

I am Thoroughly jealous of my good friends who actually make a goal to write down something every day, and, unlike myself, actually do it. Usually I don't like getting up on this minor soapbox in the corner of the Interwebs unless I have something to say, but here It goes.
The last 2 and a half months of my life.

So!! AWP was a thing. I decided that I was going to go into the convention with a good, open mind, and when I got there, I realized that fantasy fiction, or really fiction in general, was next to nowhere to be seen. I felt kind of sad at that point. You know, without fiction, life would be...well it would be like it was in the movie "The Invention of Lying". It would be drab, boring, and everything would be true! If everything was true, then people would find other things to make up! I ended up getting a book there, though. It was about Poker, and since I have a tendency to enjoy Poker a bit to much, I thought it would be an interesting read to say the least. Plus the Author was cute, and British, so Plus.

I saw Dr. Horrible's Sing along Blog for the first time. Felicia day continues to cement her place as one of my favorite actresses in history (Sorry Ginnifer Goodwin.). Plus, Nathan Fillion. Super cute, but I never wanted to punch him in the face more then after I saw that. WHY, CASTLE, WHY!?

After that, I took a drive down to Portland, About 3 hours from where I live, and went to the famous Powell's Book store~ Actually, that was a lot of fun, but I went there with a bucket of books, apparently worth only 50 bucks credit, and left out 10. So that kinda sucked. But I got more books! So Yay!

There was more boring stuff, including school. Though I fully intend to keep writing (See Title above), I think I may switch my major to film. Possibly. Maybe. I still have no clue whatsoever. But I joined my schools Film Club, and we are in the middle of shooting a movie! So there is that awesomeness.

I painted my room over spring break...In retrospect that could probably be an entire story all on its own. Maybe tomorrow. Or later. I'll see how I feel.

OH~ I went to Sakura-con in Seattle! That was Amazing with a generous heaping of Awesome. Especially since I was spending my own money. Well, I'm broke now, but I left with a Russia costume, Nekomimi ears, Which I may buy batteries for and wear to school today, and a shit ton of anime. Seriously, I didn't know I could SPEND that much on anime. But I did, and now I'm still broke.

That pretty much catches people up. I still have not a single clue where my life is going, but I am going to TRY and get something down once a day now. (Again, see Title).

Feminism vs. Video Games. How Everyone is a Loser

UUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH...

Before I begin I should preface this with something. I have done very little research into this particular subject, but there is very little to be done. Yes, Every side has their own opinion, and That is exactly what I have seen. As to actual irrefutable fact? I'm not sure there is any. It's all how one person sees it as one thing, and others see it as another thing.

I really hate these kinds of posts, mostly because it forces me to take a stance on something I don't really want to. Considering this is also a Semi-Personal blog, and part time soap box, I suppose it is a stupid thing to complain about, but considering I was kinda stuck using this topic for a Paper, I thought I would get this down before I started anything. Now, Whatever you personally think is Fine, but This is just my opinion.

Ok, So something that comes up in media from time to time is how women are portrayed in video games. This can be started by anything from Mai Shiranui being bent over in that just so perfect way to show off her unrealistically proportioned body, to how Princess Peach has yet to go up against Bowser herself and kick his ass in the same way that Mario would. The fact that there are these constants in video games is a bad thing...
BUT IT IS NOT AS BAD AS MANY THINK!
Here's how I see it. Yes there are the princesses constantly being saved, Yes there are mostly male characters, and most female characters are pretty much male characters with a chromosome switched Ala Commander Shepard style, and Yes, whatever strong female characters there are in video games are usually seen with less then a yard of clothing on her, but this is by no means a new thing. Going back all the way to ancient Greece, great works of art consisted of usually naked females being rescued by some man, then going off to be his wife or something. This is a common plot device in many a story, from Bram Stroker's Dracula, to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, to the movie "Your Highness". (Seriously, what was the point of Zooey Deschanel other then a breasted plot device?) Damsel in Distress, not a bad thing. I've seen many a movie with them, and I don't feel like there has to be some guy to save me because I'm female and that's expected, and I don't beleive I am the only girl who thinks this.
What absolutely boils my blood about this kind of issue, is that there is absolute idiots on both sides, and they are putting the spotlight on each other. There is a game called "Remember Me" on the market, who's protagonist is a woman named Nilin. There was a huge problem finding a company who would publish and release this game though, because of that fact, along with the fact that she was in a Heterosexual relationship with one of the male characters. One company (I won't Say who because that would be bad) actually commented on that second bit, saying that "No fag would want to see that". Now, I am a female, and a gamer, and One of my favorite games to date is "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood". At the beginning of this game, the main character, Ezio, has sex with a woman. I. DIDN'T. CARE. Not that the character was a female, or that my character was male, or about anything. I just saw it and went "Ok, Sex. He's an Italian guy who has a history of this, so OK." I wasn't offended by it or anything, and it really pisses me off when people (Again, Won't say, since I don't want to be sued for anything) go off and say how I feel. No, Say how YOU feel, but if you don't mind, I would like to go back to playing whatever game I would like.

Now that I have said that side, Time to go to the other. Video games are not innocent of this kind of idiocy either. Two simple words will completely explain it. Soul Calibur. This game is absolutely rediculous in regards to how little clothing is on these ladies. I mean, I understand that you are trying to boost sales with this crap, but COME ON! This is not the worst offence though. Dead or Alive? I am pretty sure more money went into the jiggle physics of this game then the actual content. I have no problem with women having a sexual stance though. I have a problem with them being sexualized, then having nothing to back it up. Lara Croft, A very lovely lady, and if she was made to wear a bikini for some unknown reason, I wouldn't care, because she is an actual character. If you looked at Mai Shiranui, then tried to guess her personality, you would have to look it up. As for the "Ms. Man" trope? Again, I don't care, but if you are going to have a female equivalent to a male character, then have some male love interests. It's only fair at that point.

One last thing I have an issue with? There really isn't any one kind of feminism. There are some who protest that woman should be able to walk around topless. They have no issue with the female form or sexuality. However, there are some who do have an issue with it, and call it objectivism. Now, if I had to pick a side, I would pick the former, but it doesn't mean I want to walk around in public with no shirt. I just like going about my day with what I like, and not being told it is bad or non-progressive or lad-di-da-di-da. Point is, No matter what anyone does, there is going to be some issue with someone. Video games suck for treating women like objects to a degree. Feminist suck for not seeing that degree, and pushing it way farther then it actually is, and for not coming together as one group and making their mind up as to what it is exactly that they want.

Now, I encourage you to write comments, though please do not make mean ones. Just give me your opinion nicely, because I am interested to know what others think.
Thanks.

Why I think there hasn't been a Really good Superman...

OK, before I start, I should probably mention this. Though it has peaked my interest as of late, and it is something I really want to get into, I am not extremely well informed when it comes to comic books. Yeah, they are a great medium of entertainment, hence why they have lasted so long, but I have yet to read any due to the fact that there are a lot of continuity issues, and I would likely not get a lot of the things they are mentioning...Got that? Good!

I love Batman.
I mean, if there is something that wants to get a lot of views, and can only include one thing, and that one thing was batman? I would probably go see it, and I know I am not the only one. I was first introduced to it, as many people my age were, through the fairly recent Christopher Nolan movies, and Loved them so much, I had to see every Batman movie that has been made, and I did...And they were Awesome. Of course, The earlier ones were not as good as the more recent ones, but with advances in technology since the First Batman movie which was released in 1989, experience, and learning from the overwhelmingly terribly received Batman and Robin movie? They certainly got better...With the exception of the Joker by Heath Ledger, but that is a story for another time.
But The name of this post isn't "Listen to me get up on a Soapbox and tell you why I love batman". It's Called "Why I think there hasn't been a really good Superman". So, Superman first appeared in 1938 in Action Comics #1, being the child of a planet called Krypton and sent off the world just as the planet faced the end of their world. He was later found by a couple of farmers in a town called Smallville and given the name "Clark Kent". After displaying Super human abilities, he decided that he would...Put on some blue and red tights and save the world time and time again.
OK, Since this was the late 30's, a lot of things were going on then. Just to name a few, Hitler was coming into power, and Disney had released It's first animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The actual events that transpired were that a couple of guys, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster went to a magazine, looking to put Superman, then a bald madman with a tendency for evil, and time and time again, got shot down. One day, Siegel asked "What if Superman used his powers for good instead of evil", and thus, the Superman we all know and love was born. The two worked on the project until they talked to National Allied Publication, and were asked to put in a feature. They put in their now good Superman for this new comic Analogy, called Action Comics, and when sales went through the roof, they soon found out it was because of Superman.
Now, These humble upbringings for a character who would soon become one of the most known and beloved icons ever were just as humble as the characters background, but again, Not me giving a history lesson, me telling you about a really good Superman and the lack of one.
Simply put, I do not think there can be one.
Before you go and get your pitch forks, here me out. I am not saying that there hasn't been a OK Superman. Plenty of people I know watched Smallville and Loved it, but here is the problem. Superman is an idealized being, a god among men, a role model for everything people want to be, down to the super powers. Now, If I were to make a Superman movie, how would I go about it? If I followed everything that the comics did, then it would be a Cliche fan film. If I went with dark and edgy, then it would likely lose what made Superman...Well, Superman, and make him more like Batman. If I went with the whole losing humanity bit like at the end of the "Man of Steel" movie, then It would also be a colossal waste. Superman is a paradigm of what others wish to be down to the dna. Strong, Fit, well known all over the world, and more then anything Special. Superman is to idealized to have a perfect recreation, and the moment someone proves me wrong, I will gladly admit it, after spending 10 bucks to see the movie. However, Until then, I fully encourage people to go after that Pinnacle of perfection that is Superman, and no matter what, in this age where summer blockbusters included Monsters fighting Giant Robots, and Superheros fighting Aliens, They are going to make back their money and then some. But what I fear is that no one is going to reach the Ideal that is Superman.
And before I go, I thought I would mention one last thing that struck me, and probably large amounts of other people as odd. This loved and well known being, the one that is probably one of the oldest most popular characters in fiction to date...Is an alien. Not only is he an alien, he is an alien whom constantly saved humans lives. So, other then the fact that it is a convenient plot device...why are people so hard on aliens in films and TV shows....
Well, that's my time for the day.
